Volvo Car UK secures double win
Volvo Car UK secures double win at the 2020 Company Car Today CCT100 Awards
• XC40 wins the title of Premium Crossover for the second consecutive year
• XC90 named Premium Large SUV winner
• 2019 powertrain and design upgrades contribute to double award-win
Volvo Car UK has added two more prestigious titles to its ever-growing list of wins, at the latest Company Car Today Awards. Once again Volvo’s first-ever compact SUV, the XC40, came out on top in the Premium Crossover class. The firm’s flagship luxury seven-seater SUV, the XC90, won in the Premium Large SUV segment.
Category winners were selected from the CCT100, Company Car Today’s rundown of the 100 vehicles that meet any fleet requirement. Decided by the CCT judging panel that collectively boasts decades of fleet industry experience, 12 criteria are used covering a combination of running costs, efficiency, practicality and car park appeal.
Aside from the two award winners, all of Volvo’s other new models – the S60, S90, V60, V90 and XC60 – also appear in the full CCT100 countdown.
The popularity of the XC40 as a company car has been fast-tracked due to its perfect balance of practical, convenient features and striking Swedish styling. The newly launched XC40 T5 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid sees the first deployment of Volvo’s 180hp 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine together with an 82hp electric motor. This has significantly increased the desirability of the XC40 for businesses and company car drivers looking to reduce their carbon footprint.
2019 also saw the debut of a new highly efficient mild-hybrid diesel powertrain for the XC90, alongside enhanced specification and updated styling. The new mild-hybrid combines Volvo’s established 2.0-litre 235hp diesel engine with a 48-volt battery, a KERS kinetic energy recovery system and an integrated starter generator, to improve fuel economy by up to 15% in real-world driving. The award-winning XC90 T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid also benefitted from an upgrade in 2019 to offer an even greater all-electric driving range of up to 28.6 miles.
Steve Beattie, Head of Fleet and Remarketing, Volvo Car UK, commented: “The XC40 and XC90 are two of our most popular company cars, and the latest upgrades we introduced in 2019 have reinforced their popularity. The double award win, in the highly-respected Company Car Today CCT100 Awards, is testament to the innovative and practical design of these class-leading vehicles, which makes them a top choice for fleets of all sizes.”
Every XC40 and XC90 is available with advanced technology designed to make life easier, such as Pilot Assist. Both models also come with an impressive list of safety and convenience features as standard including City Safety, a nine-inch centre console touchscreen, a sophisticated voice-activated control for key functions, Sensus Connect for access to selected web applications and Volvo On Call.
